Tonight as we worshipped I received a text message through the prayer line. It was from a man named Todd whom I’ve never met and I’m really not sure how he even found my blog, but it was certainly divine appointment. Here’s our conversation that happened via text message:

Todd: Hi Ryan. I love Yr site. Just found it. I have a very earnest prayer request. 9:09 PM

Todd: My name is todd. I would really be appreciative if u could pray for my total recovery from cigarette addiction and healing from damage from smoking. And 9:11 PM

Todd: ANY prophetic word from the Lord about what He thinks of me. God bless u. I need God s help and presence. 9:11 PM

Me: Well my brother, here’s what God thinks of you: He says you’re chosen (Romans 8:28-31), He says you’re made powerful in Him (John 14:12), and He says your Loved (Romans 8:37-39). I will pray for you and send you anything God gives me for you. Love you my brother. 9:37 PM

Me: God, I pray you just surround Todd with Your presence now Lord. Just coat him in comfort and peace. God, we know you’re the perfect father and You Love to pour out Your Love on Your children. Papa, I just ask that You pour out Your Love on Your son. Let him physically feel Your arms wrap around him. 9:41 PM

Me: Holy Spirit, began to let him feel Your healing power flow throughout his lungs as You remove all scar tissue and damage done by smoking. We know that Jesus died on the cross and defeated sin and death. And in death is sickness and disease so we stand on the authority of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit and say BE HEALED in the name of JESUS! Father, we thank you for grace and we ask that You be his strength. 9:48 PM

Me: Holy Spirit, bring strong conviction to where the very sight or smell of a cigarette makes him sick to his stomach. Let it be part of his testimony as people see how you broke it off his life. At the same time as you remove this that’s physical killing him God begin to weed out the things in his life spiritually killing him. God, even now let more of Your presence and Love rest upon him. 9:52 PM

Me: So we just declare complete and total healing in the name of Jesus. Amen 10:03 PM

Me: How do you feel? 10:08 PM

(At this point I was wondering how affective a prayer via text message could be)

Todd: Brother thank u. I can’t begin to tell u how I felt the presence of God and the Holy Spirit just move thru me as I read Yr words. I believe them and I believe God has healed me! Jesus defeated my addiction! The Holy Spirit flooded me like almost like a wind moving inside me! I believe That I will be able 10:09 PM

Todd: to minister to others and point them to Abba Father who loved me enough to send His Son for me and conquer this world for me 10:09 PM

Todd: And I could feel Him wrap Himself around me 10:10 PM

Todd: I know that I am healed. Thank u so much it is u reflecting Jesus and being so willing to pray for the hurting and lost That drew me to bring a prayer request to you 10:14 PM

(Jesus smacked me after Todd’s healing haha)

Me: A group is praying for you. Heres what we’re getting: 10:15 PM

Todd: I’ve agonized over thus addiction for so many years. Its been a stumbling block in my walk w Jesus for so long. But no more! 10:15 PM

(^That’s the freedom found in Jesus^)

Me: God is your defense. One person kept seeing shields and armor and towers and they all represented His defending you. And for so long you’ve tried to fight and God wants you to know its finished. You will even feel the need to keep fighting out habit but no more. 10:23 PM

Todd: Praise God thank u thank u. So true I have tried so many legalistic ways to ‘earn’ my way into right standing w God and I have battled addiction all my adult life. I will remember with God’s help each hour that He is my defense 10:27 PM

Me: That’s Jesus my brother! 10:30 PM

Me: He Loves you! 10:32 PM

Todd: Thank u thank u most of all Jesus and I will seek Him daily 10:33 PM

Me: I will be praying for you 10:37 PM

Todd: God bless u. I will be praying for you and Yr ministry. Jesus still heals and saves 10:39 PM

Me: Yes He does! 10:40 PM

(God really touched my heart with this part)

Todd: Father I just love you and thank you for What You have done, are doing and will do in all our lives and I lift up Ryan Your servant and ask that You daily 10:48 PM

Todd: strengthen and shield him. That you would strengthen him to continue leading people to You. That he continue to please You by loving those broken and 10:48 PM

Todd: hurting around him the way our king Jesus loves. Again we love you Father and You Alone are worthy the most High. Thank you That You have heard us abba 10:48 PM

Todd: father and thank you for your Son Jesus and for your Holy Spirit. Amen in Jesus name. 10:48 PM

Todd: Thanks Ryan I will be in touch. God bless and strengthen you 10:49 PM

Me: Thank you!

Jesus really healed someone via text message… He never ceases to amaze me! Moral of the story, there’s no limits on the power of the Holy Spirit! Amen.

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11

This blog is about our incredible Jesus weekend.

Last week Jasmine, Saria and I were at RMU (Robert Morris University) and were really feeling like God wanted us in Columbus. So what’s the sensible thing to do? Yep, drive on no sleep and no plan on where to stay. And of course Jesus Loves us so He found us places to stay.

Friday:

On Friday night we planned a worship night at a friends house. We worshipped in the basement with about 10 people and the presence of God showed up to give us a big hug. So amazing! But the night didn’t stop there. Everyone was hungry so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings to eat. Afterwards Saria and I ran to the gas station to get ice cream as everyone else went home. There we met a woman named Donna, probably in her 50s, working 3rd shift. She was so kind. I asked her if she could use prayer and she start telling us about her friend’s mom who passed away. The talk then turned to her faith in Jesus and we were able to encourage her to pursue a deeper relationship with him.

Saturday:

The original plan was for us to head to Cleveland and get some sleep before church Sunday morning. But Jasmine felt like we should go to Harvest Prep’s Girls Regional basketball game. The game starts turning into a blow out and Jasmine tells me that we probably will leave soon and head to Cleveland. I knew that wasn’t the case. We finish the game, HPS wins and we’re on our way. As we are heading to get on the highway Saria starts saying she’s hungry and wants McDonalds…

WHAT FOLLOWS IS A RECOUNTING OF ONE OF THE CRAZIEST PUBLIC MOVES OF GOD I’VE EVER SEEN!!!

This whole this has to be a miracle because I hate McDonalds but we decided to go in and eat (not that I was going to get anything). As soon as we walk in we seen about 10 or so high school kids hanging out. Also, oddly enough, our friends Christin Barthel and Juan Thomas happened to be there. God was up to something! Jasmine starts talking to this group of girls and then asks if we can pray with them. So we all joined hands and prayed. After we asked them if we could ask God what He thinks of them. With each girl that went everyone was getting words of knowledge. As Jasmine put it, “God was reading their mail.” They began to cry as they realized God is real, He Loves them and He knows them. Another boy walked up and said that he heard we knew peoples lives. So we prayed and God did the same for him. He went from goofing around to an understanding of how real God is. I took him off to the side after and he ended up giving his life to Jesus.

While all of this was going on a group of about 8 guys walked in and immediately started commenting on what was going on. Jasmine and I walked over while the rest of the group continued playing music and praying. We started introducing ourselves and the proceeded to ask if anyone had any pain or anything because Jesus would take it away. One had a sore neck, Jesus healed it. Another had a strained hamstring, Jesus healed it. One jokingly asked if he could be made flexible since he couldn’t touch his toes. He bent over and could only get 6 inches from the ground. We prayed and he asked skeptically, “So I’ll be able to touch my toes now?” To which Jasmine replied “Try it.” He bent down and touched the ground. All his friends started jumping around and he ran out yelling “ILLUMINATI!!!” Hahahaha! Next a guy came up with a broken finger. It was twice the size of his other fingers. The first pray, Jesus took the pain away but it was still swollen. The second, it shrunk significantly and everyone was freaking out. The third, Jesus completely healed him. One girls back and feet got healed. Another girl got healed of a swore throat. There were 8 or so healings including almost everyone of the guys that walked in making fun of us praying in McDonalds. One thing I must also add is that we didn’t lay hands on or even pray for any of them to get healed. We had each of them pray for one another. They put their hands on one another and asked Jesus for the healing and it happened. They got to see it had nothing to do with us.

By this time many of them had called their friends and there were 30 plus high school kids in this McDonald’s at about 11pm. We were able to share the Gospel and show them that Jesus isn’t church, at least not in the sense of a religious organization. They got to see Him in a way they’d never seen or believed. They got to experience His Love and presence for the first time. It was pretty incredible to watch.

We invited them to come back the next day at noon to talk more about Jesus if they wanted and we cancelled our trip to Cleveland.

Sunday:

Noon rolls around and two of the girls from the night before were there waiting for us. Jasmine took lead in the conversation asking what they thought about the night before and what they knew about Jesus. She explained the Gospel and the necessity of the sacrifice of Jesus using a McDonalds sweet tea, a french fry, some change, and a straw wrapper. Both girls decided they

“God” in Jasmine’s illustration haha

wanted to dedicate their lives to Jesus. Jasmine prayed an example prayer by rededicating her life then let them pray their own prayers. One of the girls was praying and towards the end said “I want to have a relationship with you.” It was so beautiful! They are going to get baptized soon and we will all be getting back together for that. We also have worked out a way for Saria to disciple them and we give them our information if they need anything. Jesus is so amazing!

That night we came back to RMU and decided to go to the chapel and worship. When we got there we found out that mass was supposed to be going on but it got cancelled so there were several people there. Everyone left but one girl named Brittany (hope I spelled it right). She decided to stay and worship. After worship we prayed for her and another girl. We then taught them how they can hear from God by having them pray for Jasmine. We asked asked God what He thought of Jasmine and both girls, one Catholic and one Baptist, got incredibly deep words for her. It really showed the beauty of what God’s doing. Through the Holy Spirit, denominations are unifying to be the Bride of Christ. That’s the Beauty of Jesus!

Point that must be made:

Jasmine, Saria, and I aren’t these special people that God chose to put magical powers on. Anyone can do this. In fact, when you realize you have the Holy Spirit inside you… the same Spirit that was in Jesus, raised the dead, cast out demons, and healed the sick… the Holy Spirit is in EVERY follower of Jesus. I’m learning this more and more myself, but we need to live like we have the power and authority of Jesus within us because WE DO. The Holy Spirit is VERY real, VERY powerful, and VERY fun. Living life as one big Jesus adventure never gets old.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” -Romans 8:14

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” -2 Corinthians 13:14

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” -John 14:12

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” –Mark 16:15-18

Please Pray For:

-Donna, the gas station attendant.

-Donna’s friend whose mother just passed away.

-Boy that gave his life to Jesus and his family.

-Both girls continue to follow Jesus with their whole hearts and that He would surround them with more Jesus people.

-Brittany continues to see the fullness of God and we get to form more of a relationship with her.

To God Be All The Glory!

A prayerful declaration for your campus or school from my brother Ryan Gunnarson:
Set us ablaze Lord!
This is your campus!
Baptize this place with your mercy.
Rain down your love on this place.
Rise up leaders young and old to war on your behalf.
Rise up oh sleepers!
Rise up oh those who are numb!
Rise up you prayer warriors!
God raise up people who have a zeal for your name,
A greater zeal for your face
A greater zeal for your love
Hahahahahaha a greater zeal for your glory
God come! God come! Holy and precious creator have mercy on this place!
God humble the proud.
… shake the unshaken.
… confound the wise.
… awaken the apathetic.
… satisfy the hungry
… nourish the desperate
… bring joy to the oppressed
…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
… contagious joy that changes a city like Phillip.
Come Lord!
Come with a sword ready to take out the enemy.
God bring truth back to this campus.
Like you breathed into Adam and breathed life into the disciples… God breathe life into these deflated lungs. Breathe life into these dry and weary bodies. God breathe life into these lost and dead souls.
Show us how to live unabandoned
… worship indigified
… pray unceasingly
… follow your direction
… walk boldly and righteously for your name
So I pray Lord…
Mass of dry bones AWAKEN in your name. Awaken the dead Lord.
I pray for power in your name.
I pray for authority in your name.
Help us to understand your never ceasing love for this place God.
Teach us how to join you in this war for lost souls.
Teach us how to fight on our knees.
Raise up bold leaders who will settle for nothing less than your kingdom coming to this place God.
I speak courage over the student body to preach the gospel and use words when necessary.
Raise up radical Johns, radical Peters, radical Phillips who aren’t ashamed of the good news. Boys and girls, professors and students, coaches and players…
More of you God.
Consume this place I ask Lord.
Send your fire that cleanses, your fire that purifies, your fire that changes people.
Raise up a generation that seeks you first, themselves second.
A selfless movement of lovers.
Break our heart for what breaks yours
Break our heart for the lost and the poor
We ask… you answer and open the door
Fill us up… give us more
Awaken us Lord
Breathe life into the walking dead, the diseased Horde
God make us alive in Christ
Give me life. I want a life filled with passion
A life never bored
A life where I live by the TRUTH, live by the sword
Give me a passion to read your word. Live your word. Be your word
… in scripture out Jesus
… in Grace out joy
… in fire out passion
Let your eyes be my eyes
Your mouth be my mouth
Your hands be my hands
Your feet my feet
Your love my love
Your heart cry my heart cry
Your prayers my prayers
Your freedom my freedom
Your breath my breath.
Your heartbeat my heartbeat…
Finish what you started.
Fulfill your promise God.
Revival is coming.
The fire is coming.
The joy is coming.
The army is awakening…
GOD IS COMING!
The day of the Lord is upon us.
Prepare ye the way of the Lord.
He is coming with jealous love in His heart and righteous fire in His eyes.
Make this campus yours Lord.
Make these hearts yours Lord.
Consume us God.
Make us yours…
But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

I love and pray for everyone who reads this, that you may endure the race set before you. I pray through grace you are strengthened to love one another in the fullness that Christ has loved us. That you will truly find those that sharpen you, as iron sharpens iron. That Joy and peace abound in your life and strengthen your mind, soul, and spirit. Therefore you may truly live out the two great commandments given to us by our saviour! Amen.

I have grown up in the church, and with believers, and still am today in fellowship with many in Christ. Something that I have seen is arguments, quarrels, divisions among God’s people that last and never get settled. It breaks my heart, and I can’t help but wonder is this the family God wants? Is this inevitable between believers? Does it always have to be this way? I don’t believe so, we have been given instructions on how we are supposed be as a body, as a family. What I see does not align with God’s word. I would like to share what He says in His Word in hopes that He will have the family He longs for.

  • My first point I will make is this. You are made unique there is no one like you, meaning there will be differences between you and someone else. Those differences aren’t bad! God gave us different roles and gifts to use.  We see this in 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 if you want the reference. It’s true together we make up the body yet we are different, and at the same time meant to be unified! The hand has its job and the foot has its own. Different tasks, same body. You shouldn’t expect the foot or hand to work if you cut them off from the body, do you? Each member is different, but necessary.

  • Most divisions come from disagreements or quarrels. It may be that someone is sinning in your group. If so, Matthew 18:15-19 tells us how to deal with that.  If someone sins and boasts while claiming to be  believer, then we should depart from their company (1 Corinthians 5:11). Although that is not the problems I see most with in the family. It is over many things, including the Bible and beliefs over them. I think if that’s the case one is wrong, or maybe even both are in the argument! The Bible doesn’t settle for gray areas or luke warm ways. At the moment though that is besides the point. I’m just saying, though there may be disagreements confront the person. Don’t slander them! There may not be an agreement at the end, but there can still be unity in the fact we have same goal, the same Father, the same inheritance. “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels” (2 Timothy 2:23) So if there is problems approach each other and talk about it. Do it with love though; harsh words stir up anger (Proverbs 15:1).

  • My final point is Love. Romans 5:10 says “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” That basically means if God sent His son to die for us and save us when we were unclean, how much more will he save us now that we are! That is awesome! In the same way though, if we are supposed to bless those who curse us and love our enemies, than how much more are we supposed to love our brothers and sisters in Christ? John 13:34-35 says “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Basically Jesus tells us people will know we are His disciples by our love for each other. So tell me, does your relationship with all your brothers and sisters in Christ show others you are His disciple? Think about it. I encourage you to also read 1 John 4:7-21 as well. Verse 21 specifically says “And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.” We have been commanded to love one another, it is not a suggestion. In the end of our lives here we will be asked if we learned to love? What makes us think we have learned to everyone or anyone, if we can’t love our own brothers and sisters in Christ? Let’s learn to love each other as a family, talk to each other let no quarrels or disagreements hinder Love.

I just pray that we all learn to love each other, and live to be the family our Father desires.

Ephesians 4:3: “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

This is written by my brother in Christ and best friend, Nicholas Hawthorne:

I am writing this because God brought this subject to mind recently, and I really don’t know why. I just felt like I needed to write this. Honestly, if you are reading the you probably do love Jesus and we know Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” So if you feel something from this note, I hope it is just the Holy Spirit’s conviction and that you are set free from this spirit. Nevertheless, I will write:

I have noticed this spirit some call religion, some legalism has a big stronghold on many people today. Although I see its affects much differently then most. When you think of someone bound by this you think of someone who follows all these rules; they believe that will get them to heaven. Self-righteousness can often come with this mentality. Unfortunately, there is another side to this spirit. I see many people who take the name of Christ, and don’t want to be bound by religion/legalism, so to show that they aren’t they do things that break God’s heart. It seems like the same spirit to me, both these paths lead people away from God. Some people don’t want to strive for rules or deal with self-righteous people, at the same time people don’t want to see that God’s people are the same as the world. Neither is a true representation of grace either. Grace is sufficient, it is not something that is won by us, it is freely given and freely received. As a result of grace we have the ability to be something we could not before, Holy! We are called to be Holy as He is Holy (1 Peter 1:15) through Grace, not in the same place as before!

I have been afraid before when I saw people sinning and wanted to speak up, or tell what I believe, because I was afraid I would be called legalistic or religious. That doesn’t matter though because I don’t live my life with sin in dominion over me because I am not under the law, but under grace! (Romans 6:14) As a result i don’t do what the world does. In the end legalism/religion have nothing to do with what you do. That is the problem with it. People strive for grace, and do works to try and get it, at the same People won’t live consecrated lifestyles in fear of being religious/legalistic!!! Would you call Samuel religious though, or John the Baptist legalistic because of their nazarite vows? I don’t think so. How bout Jesus, He followed the law just like the Pharisees… but it wasn’t about the law!! It was their hearts, they were proud!!! At the same time being consecrated, living Holy, speaking truth is not religious or legalistic, but something we were made to do through Grace!!!

-Nicholas James Hawthorne
