Over the past month or so myself and several others have been going after terminal illnesses with great passion. It’s something the Lord’s put on our hearts and we see it as a clear command in the Word. And over this time we’ve won some battles and lost some. Several people have passed away and that’s been really tough on our hearts, yet it hasn’t quite had the result the enemy would’ve wanted. Instead of being discouraged, we’ve (or at least I have) found a new resolve…

We’ll come back to that in a second, but let me ask you something:

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR EULOGY TO BE?

Why am I asking this question? Because I’ve realized that all too often we think in the parameters of time, not eternity. What matters is how many souls enter the Kingdom, how many people experience the Love of God and that we use our short time here for something meaningful. Worldly roadblocks and challenges mean nothing in the light of eternity, except were we faithful?

When I read over the lives of men like Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake, John Wesley, and Lester Sumrall my heart is stirred. They displayed that righteousness, miracles, and the “greater works” aren’t just for the Apostles of the Bible, they’re for the modern Christian.

What did they all have in common? They knew they were nothing without Jesus, they believed God is who He says He is, they communed with the Holy Spirit, and they had ever-increasing faith. I think it’s time we take the Word of God, the testimonies of those before us, and the unction of the Holy Spirit deep into our hearts and actually shake the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Let’s be a people that both those who remain alive on this earth past us and our Savior Jesus will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little…Enter into the joy of your master.”

My Eulogy

Now that I’ve posed the question to you, it is only fair that I answer the question for you. I want my eulogy or story to read something to the affect of…

Ryan Michael Rhodes was a man after God’s own heart that carried a profound passion, drive and resolve towards the things of the Kingdom of God. He stands out amongst the many ‘Father’s of the Faith’ in that he wouldn’t accept the mundane or ordinary but instead chose to endeavor into the unknown depths of glory and intimacy with His Creator, so much so that nothing could deter Him or His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly, he will be an example for generations of believers to look to for a glimpse of what it looks like to achieve the things that Jesus paid for on the Cross. He has run his race and has finished well. For in this man the world has been given an example of what it looks like to be a son of God following in the footsteps of Jesus, led by the Holy Spirit.

My Resolve

With God’s grace, I am going to strive to live a life of eternal consequence, never forgetting the importance of the ever advancing Kingdom. I am going to stand against the Kingdom of Darkness even when no one else will stand with me. I am going to see death bow because Jesus defeated death on the Cross. I will go deeper in God’s presence than I can even perceive at this time. I will keep the faith. I will run my race. I will live a life worthy of the above eulogy.

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

Colossians 1:24-29 NKJV

In Closing

I exhort you to prayerfully figure out what you are to be remembered for. What is the eternal perspective of you life? What does it look like for your life to reflect being a son/daughter of the Creator of the universe? Leave a legacy worthy of the salvation you’ve been given.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There isone body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Ephesians 4:1-6

Please keep me and my crew at FIRE in your prayers. Be blessed!

To God Be All The Glory!

Just wanted to share something with you all that I picked up in the Spirit. I will do my best to keep it short, brief, and powerful… Here’s hoping for a miracle! haha

The Shift…

Around the end of August/beginning of September, there was a shift in the spiritual realm. The former season was one of God pouring out great vision and anticipation, but now He has now brought us into a season of deeper intimacy to keep the focus His presence. God is pulling His church into areas of His presence and heart we’ve never been.

I felt the shift when it happened but was unsure exactly what it was that I felt. My heart began to long for the Lord in a new way and I had this overwhelming need for more of Him. At one point I actually declared, “If I don’t get more of you Abba, if I don’t go deeper, if I don’t know more, I am going to die.” I felt like I was going nuts!

It was at this point that I started receiving emails, Facebook messages and phone calls from people around the country expressing the same feeling. Since then other leaders in my life have confirmed it. God is drawing His people into a unified intimacy.

An Exhortation…

The verse for this season is Proverbs 25:2, “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.”

What does that mean? God hides things for His sons and daughters to seek out. It’s a divine scavenger hunt of sorts. God is putting a longing in the hearts of His people to go deeper than ever before. What we’re going after will not be surface level. It is something of substance and sustainability. We will come out the other end so undone by the Love of Christ that we will wonder if we were even Christians before the shift! I see it as a well buried deep beneath the earth’s surface. We will dig and dig, and when we get weary, we’ll dig some more. When we find this well it will be as a geyser blowing up in our faces. It is lasting and will purify us of anxiety and worry.

I exhort and encourage you to chase after the heart of God like never before. Get to know Him by spending time with Him in prayer, fasting*, and by reading the Word (aka the Manifesto of God’s Soul). When it feels like you’re not getting anywhere, ask the Holy Spirit for grace to press on. It will be worth it and I promise you it will be life changing!

This process is essential for what God’s about to take us into. You and I will never be the same.

This picture is awesome! Where deeper intimacy meets promise…

The Tactic of the Enemy…

I don’t like to give the enemy any credit or give him any power, but I do believe it is important to understand his plan so we can avoid falling into his lies. Remember his job description: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” He can steal, kill and destroy your dreams** by convincing you to walk into them before the time is right. He’s a liar.

In this time there are a few things the enemy is going to try to do.

  1. Make us worship vision, not the God of the vision.
  2. Convince us to skip the process and chase after our dreams so that we will burn out and hurt our relationships with others along the way.
  3. Lose focus of the purpose of this season (INTIMACY with GOD) by bringing DISCORD.

I want to take a second and explain #3. On Wednesday the 19th, another shift happened and this one was not of God. The Holy Spirit gave me the word DISCORD. The enemy is trying to sow discord into the Body. This can look like getting frustrated and not knowing why, surmounting or sudden financial issues, disputes or rebellion within in the Body, family troubles, etc. Why? The enemy wants us to take our focus off of God’s goodness and presence and turn our focus to our “problems”. Beware of the “woe is me” attitude. If you focus on your problems, they’ll become your god. If you focus on God, your problems will fade away. It’s all about going deeper with Jesus! Trust Him.

In Summary…

Love God. Walk through the process. Go deeper. Be forever changed by His Love.

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1

“My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.” Psalm 84:2

“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10

To God Be All The Glory!

*Fasting must be done in the right way. Remember, fasting changes us not God. New Covenant fasting is different than Old Covenant fasting. Now we fast as a way to say “God, You sustain me. You are the reason I live and breathe.” With every hunger pain we send a prayer to go in worship saying He’s worth it all. Please be smart and don’t fast in a way that is dangerous to your physical health.

**I’m using dreams to describe the heart level desires God has placed there that are specific to each person. Always place your dreams before the Lord and seek Him for what’s from Him and what’s not. Your dreams don’t have to be “churchy” to be from God. You living out your calling on this planet is what’s important. Do it all for the glory of God and enjoy the journey.

For those that know me, I’m not typically someone who lacks vision for the future. I almost always have some sort of idea what God is speaking for each season and my prophetic track record is pretty solid. All around, I am confident in hearing God’s voice and I have a good understanding of my specific calling in life.

In case I’m about to lose some of you, please let me clear up some things. This is not a post about how great I am and the previous statement is to help drive the point home later. If you are not confident in God’s voice or you don’t know what your calling is, that’s okay. My point is not to make myself seem better than I am. If you were offended or put off by the statements above take a second and read this: Declaration of My Own Imminent Failure… But There’s Hope!

The Blessing and Curse of Vision

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s proceed! The fact is we are a generation of people that are blessed with exuberant amounts of vision, prophetic words and BIG dreams. Our downfall as a generation is that we are impatient and we’ve never seen process at work. We don’t know what submission looks like, and we’re scared that submission means giving up our dreams. We’ve seen manipulation so we’re slow to trust.

Unfortunately we’re a fatherless generation both in the family unit and in the Church. One of the most common questions I get asked by others my age is, “How do I get a spiritual father or mother?” Because the Church is full of orphans looking for someone to care, those orphans are forced to rely on their dreams for direction.

QUICK EXHORTATION: If you are a mother or father in the Body, please adopt a spiritual son or daughter. We need spiritual leadership that is encouraging, guiding and not controlling.

The thing about dreams is they typically don’t come with a ‘How To Guide’ and the passion in our hearts can be easily influenced by the Enemy. How? Someone once told me that if the Enemy can’t hit the breaks on something he’ll hit the accelerator. If he can get us to hurry past process, character forming and TRUE divine appointments, he can get us to burn out and ultimately stop the glory of God we were going to spread on this planet.

As my pastor and spiritual father Jim Baker puts it, “When we gets words about ministering to the nations or being a general in this generation, we often want to run off and do it or we start looking for our army to lead. You have to learn to follow before you’ll know how to lead. You have to be a son before you can be a father.” We are a generation that carries greatness and we will shake the nations, but we have to allow the process before we run out and try to change the world. Character before calling. Passion without process will leave you burnt out wondering why your dreams never happened. Chase your dreams but honor the process to get there.

Humility Through “Humanization”

So now I must confess that I’m the most guilty of us all. I tried to rush the process and I almost fell flat on my face. Thankfully God’s grace invaded the situation. Let me lay out the scenario for you.

My passion is for Hollywood, filmmaking and ministry. I’ve received tons of prophetic words about a new season, moving to a new city, Los Angeles and traveling preaching. Every single word hit my heart in a profound way that told me they were from God. I recently left school upon the releasing of the Holy Spirit and that left me wondering, what’s next? So I looked over my prophetic words and it would make complete sense based on the prophetic words for me to prepare to move to LA, and honestly God probably would’ve blessed it. Favor has never been an issue and I’m confident it never will be, but what I would’ve missed out on (and what would’ve been to my demise) was the opportunity to learn sonship.

Brad McKoy, another spiritual father in my life, had a very tough talk with me that helped bring things into perspective. Jesus served as a carpenter in His father’s house for almost 30 years. Throughout that time He must have seen sick people, the poor, people stoned to death, etc. His heart had to of swelled with compassion and a desire to step in to help, but He knew it wasn’t His time yet. That conversation struck my heart hard and I knew what I had to do. God told me a year ago to serve my spiritual parents and my church, yet I had let that word fall behind the was that were more exciting in my mind. We will never be short on cool options and good things to do, but it’s about figuring out what the God things are. Bill Johnson says, “Character is not formed in the absence of options.” Figure out where you are supposed to serve and stick to it until God releases you.

This picture makes me laugh because they made Jesus look like a little girl. C’mon Catholic artists! haha

Since I came to that realization in my head and my heart, I knew exactly what I needed to do. It started with repentance to my spiritual parents and then to the rest of my spiritual family. The night before being ordained at Zion (July 22nd, 2012) I was able to repent and they then gathered to pray over and bless me. It wrecked me. I am truly blown away by the grace and Love shown by those who care about me.

To bring understanding to my earlier statements, even though I’m confident in hearing God’s voice, I was wrong. I misunderstood the direction I was supposed to be going and I made a mistake or three. But that’s okay. I think the most powerful thing that came of this is the humanization of humility. We tend to put people on a pedestal in the Body and we forget they’re human. This both removed the pedestal in other’s minds and gave me the freedom to make mistakes. The day I start claiming to be perfect or to know everything is the day that you should stop listening to anything I have to say. I’m human and I’m always going to be growing.

One of my favorite books in the Bible is Timothy (yes, I’m putting 1 and 2 together). Every time I read it I feel like Paul is writing to me. Paul makes a statement to Timothy that is key regarding growing in the faith:

Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.

1 Timothy 4:15,16

Did you catch that? “The people will all see you mature right before their eyes!” It’s okay, actually it’s necessary, to be growing as a leader. People often ask me why I am so open about my life and that is the reason. I want you to see me grow and I want you to see my mistakes. I also want you to see me learn from them. Why? I hold to the hope that you can learn from observance what I learned and will learn from trial.

So What Now?

I have surrendered myself to the process and have committed to serving Zion and FIRE for a year. I realized the recent prophetic words were for the next season and they are to help me prepare. I want to grow in relationship with my spiritual parents and learn everything I can from them. My goal is to honor them in heart, word, and deed. I canceled all ministry plans for the remainder of the year and I will take any new invitations before God and the wise counsel of my leadership.

Meanwhile, FIRE is going full force against the darkness at OSU by Loving relentlessly. We plan to see a greater family dynamic form amongst the group, more salvations, outrageous miracles, unprecedented favor and ultimately the Kingdom of God at Ohio State. Zion is now helping spiritually cover us and they have opened their resources and trainings up to us.

In Closing…

Pursue your dreams but honor the process you are called to. Don’t try to rush anything. God’s plan is greater than ours. A general doesn’t receive that place of authority right out of boot camp. Let God put you on the platform. True authority is given by God and man recognizes it. You don’t have to make the prophetic words over your life happen. Part of weighing prophetic words is praying about the timing of the words. Ask God if that’s a word for now or later. I urge you to learn from my mistakes and successes.

To everyone that has supported me (prayerfully, financially, or otherwise), thank you! Your Love and grace continues to remind me of why I do what I do. I see Jesus in you all and experience deeper levels of His Love in the way you Love me. A special thanks to Brad McKoy and the Bakers for their continued support, guidance and Love.

My hope is that this post has blessed you. If it has please pass it on to others. Also, you might want to check out this video I recorded recently: The Calm Before The Storm…

I leave you with the words of Paul to young Timothy… Be blessed!

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

1 Timothy 4:12-16 NKJV

To God Be All The Glory!

I have compiled several words (in several parts) I feel God’s been giving me for the upcoming year for Columbus, OH and the Church. This is not something I would typically do, but I felt strongly like I was supposed to. Like any prophetic word, let it be tested (1 Corinthians 14). If it bears witness with your spirit, accept it. If it doesn’t, pray about it. Also, I’m not Bob Jones or Rick Joyner. Really, I’m not even a prophet. Instead, I’m just someone who loves to spend time with the Holy Spirit. In intimacy and relationship He shares His secrets with His friends (John 15:9-17). You, too, can hear from God on the upcoming year and be prepared for what’s to come!

Money/Finances:

† We are entering a time of great transfer inside and outside the Church. There are those that have had nothing and have remained faithful to God, To those He says “I am proud of you my faithful one. In this year you will know My faithfulness.” Our heart ties to money will be torn as God will call both the wealthy and the poor to give when it seems asinine. We are being called to give until it hurts. We are going to find ourselves funding greater missions trips and even marketplace endeavors as God commands. Be willing to give. He’s bringing the Church back to (Acts 2:44-45) where no one had need because they tended to the needs of one another.

† There will also be several waves of financial outpouring in supernatural ways and from worldly sources to fund Christ centered projects as well as individuals. We are not to focus or depend on this. Be obedient to God and He’ll begin to lay out what to do to cooperate with what He is doing.

Pray into this and pass it on. Be blessed!

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19
